What Are Dental Veneers?
Veneers are thin coverings that are attached to the front of teeth. The enamel-like porcelain reflects light just like the real thing, meaning that the result will look realistic and natural. These sheaths hide flaws including the following:
- Slight misalignment in teeth.
- Small gaps between teeth.
- Chips or cosmetic cracks in teeth.
- Tooth discoloration that doesn’t respond to professional whitening.
The Process of Getting Veneers
For traditional veneers, you will have two separate visits to our office. During the first, we will make sure veneers are a good option for you and closely examine your teeth and gums. Once we determine you are a candidate, we will give you a local anesthetic in that area of your mouth. Then, we will remove about 0.5mm of your enamel from the front surface of your teeth, making room for the veneer. Before leaving, you will have temporary veneers attached to protect your teeth until your custom ones are ready. When we receive the final products from the lab, you’ll come back to have your veneers bonded in place.
With Lumineers and composite veneers, the process is slightly different. Lumineers do not require removing any enamel, but you will still have two visits to complete treatment. Composite resin veneers can be finished in just one appointment and typically do not involve taking away any tooth structure.
The Benefits of Veneers
Even if your veneers are hiding small flaws, they can have a significant impact on your self-confidence because they look so natural and perfect, helping you want to smile and show your teeth more often. This renewed self-esteem can open opportunities professionally and socially, potentially leading to a higher quality of life.
If you are looking for a longer-term solution to your aesthetic issues, veneers are great because they last between 15 and 20 years before needing replacement. Also, they are typically very durable and stain resistant, which means you can rely on them to look great even through normal wear and tear.
Understanding the Cost of Veneers
Many factors go into calculating the cost of veneers, but here are some concepts to keep in mind:
- Veneers last longer than whitening or bonding, which makes it a long-term investment.
- Many who get veneers are thrilled with the results.
- Dental insurance typically does not cover cosmetic procedures, including veneers, so you’ll likely have to pay out-of-pocket.
- Low-interest financing may be available, dividing the cost into easy monthly payments.
